Event description:
In response to the upsurge of interest in the use of freshly-cut, unseasoned timber for the primary structural frame of new projects, the Centre for Timber Engineering is hosting a one day seminar entitled ‘Designing with Green Timber – Art & Practice’ on Tuesday 24 June 2008 at Napier University’s Craiglockhart campus in Edinburgh. A pdf brochure containing full details of the event is attached. The programme brings together architects, engineers and specialist contractors who, in recent years, have designed and erected some of the most notable green timber structures and buildings in Scotland.

The emphasis of the seminar is on contemporary design solutions and features the first presentation to a professional audience of the newly-completed Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park headquarters building by Page\Park Architects, Buro Happold Engineers and Carpenter Oak & Woodland Co.Ltd. The other projects under discussion in the course of the day range from innovative domestic solutions to large section green timber frames that make best use of locally grown timbers such as Douglas fir and European larch.

The day is introduced by Peter Ross, a consultant to Arup and principal author of the recently-published ‘Green Oak in Construction’ a copy of which will be supplied to each delegate to the seminar. This TRADA book is already recognised as a primary reference source for anyone considering designing and constructing in green timber and is normally priced at £65-00. This, together with a programme containing 10 speakers whose collective experience embraces all facets of green timber design and construction makes this one of the best value CPD events ever to be presented in Scotland.

The cost to attend is £100-00 + vat per person, but businesses choosing to send more than one delegate can obtain a special discount of 20%, reducing the price to £80-00 +vat per person.  The cost includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day as well a copy of ‘Green Oak in Construction’. We believe the event is outstandingly good value and a unique opportunity to receive objective, thought-provoking information on this highly topical subject. Busy professionals have many diary pressures but, in this instance, can you really afford not to be there?
