Woodschool, Scotland - Contemporary Furniture, Sawn Hardwoods, Sawmilling - Static and Mobile - and Machining Services

Contemporary Furniture Design. Woodschool is an design and make collective assisting young furniture makers to develop and establish their businesses. They also produce the Woodschool ranges of solid hardwood furniture. All their makers work almost exclusively with local Scottish hardwoods, designing and producing contemporary furniture for private, corporate and public clients. Sawn Hardwoods. Woodschool mill and kiln dry their own timber, which is sourced from local woodlands. As an organisation, they promote the sustainable, sensible and local use of our Scottish hardwood resource. To this end they have their own certification and chain of custody system to assure customers that their hardwood supplies come from well managed woodlands.

Sawmilling & Machining Services. Woodschool have static saws but they also have their own mobile woodmizer saw and do contract cutting for private end-users and local estates. Sawn timber products include beams and off-saw cladding for timber buildings. Most of their milling is done on the east coast near the Scottish borders, but they will travel as far north as Fife and south to Northumbria in the North of England.

They also offer a specialist machining service, machining hardwood in bulk or in small quantities for individual wood workers who dont have their own bench saw, planer-thicknesser or spindle moulder.

 

Woodschool Customers and Ethos. Woodschool has a diverse customer base at home and abroad. Their furniture is sold in America, Europe and Scandinavia as well as at home, and their market is split evenly between domestic customers, private corporations and public organisations. Customers include The National Trust for Scotland, Northumberland National Parks, The Buccleuch Group, Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. Speilising in the bespoke built environment they have a prestigious clint base amongst the architectural and landscape design community. They sell sawn timber, furniture and do interior joinery and fine cabinet work to private commission

Woodschool promotes home-grown timber and provides new designers and makers with workshop facilities and marketing assistance. It gives people the chance to own beautiful wood furniture. Woodschool promotes material knowledge of our native trees and wood in a hands on way, through timber clinics and inspirational site visits. Their furniture that can be found in public and corporate buildings and an increasing number of private homes who have bought into their business philosophy. Woodschool reaches out to people in Scotland, to expand our knowledge of the tremendous hardwood resource that is on our doorsteps but whose worth has generally not been recognised.
