Ardslignish Scotwood is a sawmill and joinery workshop situated on the most westerly point of the Scottish mainland, Ardnamurchan. It is owned and run by Sandy MacDonald, who provides a diverse range of timber products and services to people living in the west-coast highlands and islands of Scotland. They can supply timber for a complete building project - oak, larch or Douglas fir frame, exterior cladding, and hardwood floors.

Structural and Sawn Timber. The sawmill has a static, electric woodmizer saw that is capable of cutting structural timber in large sections - up to 3' by 20'. They cut beams and other structural timbers for building, such as floor joists and roof truss sections.

The mill also cuts hardwood for planking which is kiln dried and either sold as sawn timber or used by their own workshop. They cut and kiln dry oak, elm, sycamore and ash, but as with most small mills, the stock that is held at any one time varies. Its best therefore to order as well in advance as possible.

Frames and Houses. Recently, Arslignish Scotwood cut timbers for two all timber houses using top quality Douglas Fir. The houses were built on the cantilever principle using 8 or 12, 20 ft uprights of 12"x 12". The buildings were 2 storey with 4 bedrooms downstairs and open-plan living accommodation upstairs.

Cladding. The company also cut and machine exterior timber cladding. It is supplied fresh sawn as either plain boards or with a specified profile.

Ardslignish supply boat skin larch and oak to the boat building industry.

Hardwood Flooring etc. In their workshop, Ardslignish also make Scottish wooden flooring, skirtings and architraves, all on a small scale and to order - mainly by local customers.

The timber that the mill cuts is all sourced locally.
