Oak: From Tree to Timber

Oak is probably the most popular and best known of the hardwood species we have in Scotland. Well loved for it’s incredible durability as well as its beauty, Oak plays a hugely important role in Scottish hardwoods and is a core product of many ASHS member businesses.

This video, produced by ASHS member Logie Timber, follows the journey of Oak from tree to processed timber. Throughout the video we will look into Oak’s features, properties and uses and show how Oak is sawn, processed, stored and dried in the sawmill in order to create our final timber product.
